The Color of Us

- Introduce the concept of diversityThis word simply means differences. It generally refers to differences in things like race, gender, religion, language, culture, or appearance. More. Ask your child how they think the world is made better by people’s skin being a variety of shades and colors. What would it be like if everyone looked exactly the same?
- Ask your child if they know why our skin comes in all different colors. Talk about the biology of skin color. Here’s a video for younger kids, and a video for older kids.

- Think of people in your life and their different skin colors. Create your own version of The Colors of Us.
- Create a picture of multiple kids doing something together; with each child having a different skin tone. Write a story about the group of friends, asking your child to think about why they are friends and what they enjoy doing together.
